Orange essential oil

Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Oil

Orange essential oil, cold-pressed from orange peel, has excellent revitalising and energising properties. It brings a sense of warmth and happiness while soothing the digestive system. It is also commonly used as an effective mood booster and for its wonderful citrus aroma. Orange oil is useful for disinfecting and eliminating fungi and pathogens, and is effective against colds and flu, particularly at the first signs. This oil helps eliminate toxins from the body and stimulates the lymphatic system. It is invigorating and uplifting yet also calming, making it suitable for use as an antidepressant. It also supports collagen production in the skin. It has antifungal, antibacterial and antidepressant uses. In addition, the oil has anti-inflammatory properties, is a powerful antioxidant and has strong effects on skin tissue healing. It is obtained by pressing the peel of Citrus aurantium dulcis, a subtropical citrus tree native to Southeast Asia, where it has been grown for centuries for both its fruit and essential oils. It is a natural essential oil obtained through a cold mechanical process without chemical additives, preserving its bioactive components such as limonene and vitamin C.

Its mechanism of action involves powerful antioxidant properties that neutralise free radicals and protect skin cells from oxidative stress. Its anti-inflammatory effects soothe irritated skin, while supporting wound healing and tissue regeneration. As an antibacterial and antifungal agent, it disinfects and fights pathogens. It stimulates collagen production, improving skin elasticity and firmness. In cosmetics, it is used at concentrations of 0,5-2 % in creams and serums for both aromatherapeutic and functional effects, with no phototoxic risk at low doses.

It is recommended for dry, sensitive and mature skin, where it hydrates, revitalises and reduces wrinkles. It is suitable for tired, dehydrated or inflamed, irritated skin, including acne-prone skin, thanks to its antibacterial properties. It is not recommended for very sensitive skin at higher concentrations due to potential irritation; it is ideal for normal to oily skin in need of toning and a stress-relieving effect.

A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (2018) showed that applying citrus peel oil at a concentration of 1 % reduced inflammatory markers in patients with irritated skin by 25 % after 4 weeks and increased collagen synthesis by 18 %, as measured histologically. Further research in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2020) confirmed that limonene from orange oil inhibits tyrosinase by 40 % at a concentration of 0,5 %, thereby reducing hyperpigmentation.
