Smoothing booster for acne and enlarged pores
This concentrated booster with 2% salicylic acid gently yet effectively exfoliates the surface of the skin and the inside of pores. As an oil-soluble acid, it penetrates built-up sebum, helping to unclog pores and reduce blackheads and blemishes. By removing dead skin cells, it also smooths uneven texture and softens the appearance of enlarged pores. With use, skin looks clearer, smoother and less oily.
The booster is not a serum to be used on its own. Each time you use it, mix 1-3 drops into one dose of the product recommended in your MyLab personalisation. The booster’s light, concentrated formula blends easily with the product, adding extra targeted care without another step in your routine.
MyLab personalisation with a booster
Boosters are highly concentrated products created to personalise your skincare with targeted care. They add the highly active care your skin currently needs to your chosen product, without you having to change your entire routine.
- Choose the product you want to personalise.
- MyLab will recommend a suitable booster based on your skin’s current needs.
- Mix 1-3 drops of booster into one dose of the product in your hand, as recommended by the personalisation.
The result is care tailored directly to your skin. Always add the booster to one dose of serum, cream, cleanser or eye care product immediately before use. Do not add it directly to the whole product.
What the booster targets
- Acne-prone skin: helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, promoting a clearer-looking complexion.
- Clogged pores and blackheads: penetrates the built-up sebum in pores and helps remove impurities that contribute to clogged pores.
- Visible and enlarged pores: clearing their contents softens their appearance and helps create a smoother, more even skin texture.
- Excess sebum and shine: helps keep pores clear and leaves oily or combination skin feeling fresher and more balanced.
- Rough and uneven texture: exfoliates the skin’s surface to reveal smoother skin and promote a brighter, more refined appearance.
Who it’s for
The 2% salicylic acid booster is primarily suitable for oily and combination skin. It is especially intended for:
- oily and combination skin prone to acne,
- skin with blackheads and clogged pores,
- skin with visible or enlarged pores,
- thickened skin with a rough, uneven texture.
Key ingredients
- Salicylic acid (2%): an oil-soluble acid, which means it can work not only on the surface of the skin but also inside pores filled with sebum. It helps unclog pores, reduce blackheads and prevent dead skin cells from building up. With regular exfoliation, it softens the appearance of pores, smooths skin texture and promotes a clearer appearance in acne-prone skin. In a 12-week study with 35 participants, its use significantly reduced the number of inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions, with visible improvement from week four. Skin texture, tone, post-inflammatory pigmentation and oiliness also improved.
Texture
The ultra-light liquid texture is easy to measure out drop by drop and blends easily with serum, cream or cleanser. It does not add oiliness or heaviness, and leaves skin feeling comfortable without an unpleasant film.
How to use
Add 1-3 drops of booster to one dose of your favourite product, as recommended by MyLab personalisation. Mix evenly in the palm of your hand and apply as directed for the product you are personalising.
Do not use the booster on its own or add it to the whole product. Avoid contact with the eyes and eye area, and do not use on irritated or damaged skin. Do not combine it in the same routine with retinol, AHA acids or another exfoliating product. Use sun protection during the day. Do not exceed the recommended dose — more drops do not mean a better effect.

Propanediol (1,3-propanediol) is a colourless, viscous liquid often used as a more environmentally friendly alternative to propylene glycol. It has excellent hydrating properties, making it useful in cosmetics such as creams, serums and facial toners, where it acts as a humectant and solvent. In industry, it also serves as a raw material for producing polymers and biodegradable plastics. It is well tolerated by the skin and is considered a safe, gentle ingredient. This substance is obtained by fermenting natural sources, such as corn sugar or glucose from plant materials, making it a renewable alternative to petrochemical glycols. Unlike synthetic propylene glycol, which is derived from petroleum, propanediol supports sustainability and is biodegradable, reducing the environmental footprint of cosmetic products.
Propanediol acts primarily as a humectant, hydrating the skin by binding water from its surroundings and preventing its loss through transepidermal evaporation. It improves the penetration of active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin thanks to its ability to act as a solvent and penetration enhancer. It supports skin barrier repair by increasing hydration and elasticity without causing irritation. At concentrations of 2-10 %, it significantly improves the sensory properties of formulations, reduces the stickiness of other humectants such as glycerine, and contributes to the overall stability of emulsions.
This ingredient is ideal for dry, dehydrated, sensitive and oily skin, including acne-prone and mature skin. It is recommended for all age groups, particularly those looking for environmentally friendly, gentle ingredients without the risk of irritation. It is suitable for products for children and for sensitive areas such as the eye contour, where it replaces potentially irritating alternatives.
A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science (2014) demonstrated that propanediol at a concentration of 5 % improved skin hydration by 25 % after 4 weeks of application compared with a placebo, as measured by corneometry. Further research in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science (2018) reports that at a concentration of 3-7 %, it increased the penetration of niacinamide into the skin by 40 %, enhancing its hydrating and barrier-supporting effects.
This aromatic beta-hydroxy acid occurs naturally in willow bark and other plants, but cosmetic-grade salicylic acid is usually produced synthetically to ensure precise purity. It is more soluble in alcohols and glycol carriers than in water. At a low pH, it acts as a keratolytic ingredient and is one of the most extensively studied actives for oily and acne-prone skin.
Salicylic acid penetrates the oily environment within pores, loosens the bonds between dead skin cells and helps reduce the formation of comedones. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect, so it may reduce the redness of blemishes. At the right dose, it smooths skin texture, but overuse leads to dryness, stinging and disruption of the skin barrier. It should not be used alongside several strong exfoliants at once.
We recommend it for oily, combination, acne-prone and thickened skin with blackheads and blocked pores. Dry or sensitive skin can benefit from targeted, less frequent use. Extra caution and professional advice are needed for anyone with a salicylate allergy or extensively damaged skin, and for young children.
A randomised clinical study showed that 2 per cent supramolecular salicylic acid achieved similar efficacy in mild to moderate acne to a combination of 5 per cent benzoyl peroxide and 0,1 per cent adapalene, and was well tolerated (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2019). Conventional 2 per cent formulations also have long-term data supporting their ability to reduce comedones.
In Europe, it is commonly used in leave-on cosmetics within the permitted limit, often at 0,5 to 2 per cent depending on the purpose and product category. Its effectiveness depends on the pH and the proportion of free acid. SPF protection is needed during the day, and the frequency of use should be reduced if redness occurs.
When introducing targeted skincare with active ingredients, it is best to start gradually and avoid changing several products at once during the first few weeks. This makes it easier to distinguish results from irritation. Visible changes in texture or tone usually require several weeks of regular use. Daily SPF protection, gentle cleansing and a well-functioning skin barrier have a significant influence on achieving good, lasting results.
A small container designed for maximum precision
When choosing packaging for LucyLab, our main consideration is how well it supports the product itself. With highly concentrated formulas, we need to protect the recipe while allowing a small amount to be applied precisely where the skin needs it. That’s why we chose Injector Airless 5 ml – a compact airless cosmetic container with a premium design and an exceptionally precise applicator.
Airless system for better protection of active ingredients
Airless technology uses an internal piston that pushes the product towards the applicator as it is dispensed, without a conventional dip tube. This significantly limits repeated exposure of the cosmetic formula to air and helps protect sensitive active ingredients from oxidation. The closed system also reduces contact between the contents, hands and the external environment. Better product protection allows us to use gentle preservative systems without relying solely on intensive chemical preservation to keep the formula stable.
Precise 0.17 ml dose
Injector Airless 5 ml dispenses approximately 0.17 ml of product per press. The narrow applicator makes it easy to apply a small amount of serum or intensive treatment precisely, without scooping up the product with your fingers. Application is therefore simple, clean, hygienic and controlled – with minimal waste.
A compact format you can keep close at hand
With a diameter of approximately 23 mm and a height of 115 mm, this 5 ml airless container is slim, lightweight and practical for travel. Its small capacity is ideal for concentrated cosmetics that require only a small amount of product.
Thoughtful materials for modern cosmetics
The design mainly uses PP, PETG and PE – materials used in modern cosmetic packaging and accepted by the COSMOS standard. Individual plastic components can be recycled in line with the facilities available in your local recycling system. When choosing packaging, LucyLab follows the principles of the COSMOS and ECOCERT standards, as well as manufacturing quality supported by ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems. The result is a combination of airless protection, precise dispensing, hygienic application and premium minimalist design.
