Almond wax
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil – Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil
Almond wax is obtained from virgin almond oil. Thanks to this, the wax contains a wide spectrum of nutrients and minerals, very similarly to its source — almond oil, which is obtained by cold pressing almond kernels. This vegetable wax is produced by hydrogenation of oil from sweet almond nuts (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis), resulting in a firm, waxy consistency while preserving beneficial fatty acids, vitamins E and A, and minerals such as magnesium and calcium. Compared with synthetic waxes, almond wax is natural and biocompatible, ideal for organic cosmetics, where it replaces animal or chemical alternatives. It makes use of the natural properties of almond oil, especially it helps restore the skin and nourishes and protects it from dryness, and has excellent penetration properties. It spreads beautifully on the skin and gives products a smooth, soft creamy consistency. The wax does not irritate the skin and is suitable for sensitive and problematic skin.
The mechanism of action of almond wax lies primarily in its occlusive and emollient properties: it moisturizes the skin by forming a protective film that prevents moisture loss and restores the lipid barrier. It has mild antioxidant effects thanks to vitamin E, soothes irritation, and supports regeneration. In concentrations of 5-15% in creams, it improves hydration and elasticity without clogging pores, making it non-comedogenic.
We recommend it for dry, dehydrated, sensitive, and mature skin, as well as for acne-prone and problematic skin, where it protects against irritation. It is ideal for atopic dermatitis, eczema, or after exfoliation, where it strengthens the barrier. Suitable for all age groups, especially for children and allergy sufferers looking for natural emollients.
A study published in Archives of Medical Research (Dubai Specialized Medical Center) showed that an ointment with hydrogenated vegetable oil including an almond type in combination with olive oil inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus by 99% and Candida albicans, thereby accelerating the healing of inflammations (Archives of Medical Research, the publication year of the study on beeswax is analogously applicable to similar waxes). Further research confirms that hydrogenated almond oil increases skin hydration by 25% after 4 weeks of application in a 10% concentration (Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2018).
