Sodium Hyaluronate

This sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, produced by fermentation, has a higher molecular weight and long polysaccharide chains. It remains mainly on the skin’s surface, where it forms a flexible, hydrating film. In cosmetics, it is used to provide immediate comfort, reduce tightness and support a smooth appearance without an oily feel.

Supreme HyalRenew attracts water and forms a thin network on the skin’s surface, slowing water evaporation. Its higher molecular weight provides a film-forming and soothing effect, but it does not penetrate deep into the dermis or act as a filler. It works well alongside low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, glycerine and lipids, as different types of hydration work in different layers.

It is suitable for dry, dehydrated, sensitive and mature skin, as well as oily skin that needs non-greasy hydration. It is particularly useful for people whose skin feels tight after cleansing or in air-conditioned environments. In very dry air, it is advisable to follow the serum with a cream to help keep water in the skin.

A clinical study of 0,1 per cent creams containing hyaluronic acid of different molecular weights showed a significant increase in hydration and elasticity with regular use (Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, 2011). Higher molecular weights worked mainly on the surface, while smaller forms had a more pronounced effect on wrinkle depth.

The usual concentration is approximately 0,05 to 0,3 per cent. The powder should be hydrated slowly and protected from intense shear once a gel has formed, as this can mechanically shorten the chains. Excessive amounts cause stickiness and pilling when layering products.

In your daily routine, it makes sense to focus on longer-term comfort, suppleness and whether your skin feels less tight throughout the day. In a dry climate, a humectant also needs an emollient or occlusive ingredient to lock in the water it retains. The result therefore depends on the overall formula, consistent use and gentle cleansing, rather than a high concentration of a single ingredient. Regular application in appropriate amounts is also important.
