SKINBAC™ - probiotic complex
Lactobacillus (and) Bifidobacterium (and) Maltodextrin
This modern active ingredient complex is used in cosmetic products to support skin health, particularly to protect and restore the skin microbiome. It contains probiotic spores of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans, obtained through biotechnological processes from bacteria of the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium genera, stabilised with maltodextrin. These microorganisms are specific probiotic ingredients that offer a wide range of skin benefits through the natural fermentation processes typical of natural cosmetics.
The complex supports the restoration and balance of the skin microbiome, strengthening the skin's protective barrier by calming inflammatory responses and regulating microflora. It has anti-inflammatory properties, reduces redness and irritation, improves hydration by regulating pH and supports the skin's defences against external aggressors such as pollution and UV radiation. It also contributes to skin cell regeneration and helps manage concerns such as acne or eczema by balancing bacteria on the skin's surface. The recommended concentration in products is 1-5 % for optimal results without overloading the microbiome.
Ideal for dry, sensitive, oily, acne-prone, dehydrated or mature skin, where a disrupted microbiome worsens dehydration, inflammation or barrier impairment. Recommended for sensitive skin prone to eczema, rosacea or acne, as well as dehydrated skin following exposure to stress, where it helps restore hydration and resilience. Also suitable for mature skin to help prevent ageing caused by oxidative stress.
A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (2018) demonstrated that applying a complex containing Bacillus subtilis at a concentration of 2 % reduced inflammatory acne lesions by 68 % after 4 weeks in patients with mild to moderate acne. Further research in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2020) showed that Bacillus coagulans at a concentration of 3 % increased ceramide synthesis in the skin barrier by 45 % over 28 days, improving hydration and reducing transepidermal water loss by 32 %.
