Oliwax®

Description

Oliwax® is a natural stabilising lipid derived from 100% ultra-fast olive oil through an exclusive industrial manufacturing process. It is plant-derived and contains the highly valuable unsaponifiable fraction of olive oil, which is rich in squalene – a substance naturally present in the lipid layer of human skin. The ingredient is produced using a very gentle process that preserves the original characteristics of the natural raw material.

Function

Oliwax® acts as a multipurpose emollient and emulsion stabiliser. Its primary role is to moisturise and restore the skin barrier, thanks to its high affinity for lipids, which allows it to integrate seamlessly with the skin’s lipid layer. It forms a crystalline network capable of retaining up to 75% of the oil phase without lowering the melting point, protecting active ingredients and encapsulated ingredients from oxidation. At a concentration of 1-3% in oil-in-water emulsions, it improves hydration and stability; at 2-4%, it acts as a liquid crystal modifier; and at 1-3% in sun protection products, it stabilises viscosity and increases SPF.

Patch tests have shown it to be non-irritating, making it suitable for skin prone to irritation too. Oliwax® is more than 90% biodegradable according to the OECD method and achieves a biodegradation level above 60% ThCO₂ in the OECD 301-B test over 28 days. Oils cross-linked with Oliwax® show a Rancimat value three times higher at 80°C than untreated oils, demonstrating significantly improved oxidative stability. The product is certified by Ecocert and COSMOS and has been confirmed as non-irritating in dermatological tests.
