Olivem® VS Feel

Olivem® VS Feel is an ingredient inspired by olive lipids that helps promote the formation of liquid crystal structures. Thanks to its specific chemical composition and physical structure, it acts in a biomimetic way, interacting with the skin’s hydrolipidic film to support proper barrier function, skin hydration and a pleasant skin feel. This emulsifier is synthetically optimised to mimic natural olive lipids, allowing a high degree of compatibility with the skin’s lipid system. It creates stable liquid crystal lamellae that help transport active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin and strengthen the protective barrier against moisture loss. It is manufactured according to green chemistry principles with minimal environmental impact and is certified to COSMOS standards, ensuring sustainability and purity without unnecessary additives.

Olivem® VS Feel was created to support the philosophy of green chemistry, meeting COSMOS requirements using state-of-the-art technology. Its mechanism of action focuses on restoring skin barrier function through biomimetic interaction with skin lipids, moisturising the skin and balancing moisture levels in the dermal layer. As a bodying agent, it improves the sensory profile of formulations, creating a luxurious, silky feel without greasiness. It supports the formation of lipid structures similar to those in the stratum corneum, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and protecting against environmental aggressors. The recommended concentration in emulsions is 2-5 %, with optimal results at 3-4 % for a stable barrier and hydration.

Properties and benefits: Bodying agent. Restores skin barrier function. Balances dermal moisture levels. Creates an exceptionally pleasant feel on the skin. This ingredient is ideal for dry, dehydrated, sensitive and mature skin, strengthening a weakened barrier and preventing moisture loss. It is also recommended for atopic or irritated skin, as it soothes and regenerates without clogging pores. It is not suitable for extremely oily skin without additional sebum control, but combined with lightweight oils, it works across all skin types in need of protection and hydration.

Studies confirm the effectiveness of similar olive-based emulsifiers: Olivem 1000 (a similar system) at a concentration of 3,5 % reduced TEWL by 28 % and increased hydration by 35 % after 4 weeks of application in subjects with dry skin (International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2018). Another study on biomimetic lipid emulsifiers showed a 42 % improvement in barrier integrity, measured by corneometry after 2 weeks (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2021).
