IceAwake™
Succinic Acid (and) Maltodextrin (and) Aqua/Water
Origin and basic information
This ingredient is a biotechnological extract derived from a cold-tolerant bacterium isolated from soil beneath a Swiss glacier in Valais. It is an extremophile that was preserved in its natural state beneath a layer of ice for many years. The ingredient is approved in accordance with the COSMOS Standard and ECOCERT GREENLIFE, guaranteeing its natural origin and safety for cosmetic use. Biotechnological extraction processes, such as microbiological and enzymatic methods, are also permitted in the production of natural cosmetics, and this ingredient is a typical example of this kind of biotechnological innovation.
Function and mechanism of action
The ingredient acts primarily as an antioxidant and an energy booster for tired skin. Its mechanism of action is based on increasing ATP production in cells and improving chaperone expression in ageing fibroblasts. In this way, it restores the energy potential of skin cells and supports natural regeneration. It reduces muscle tension and visibly reduces wrinkle depth. A key benefit is its ability to improve skin radiance and elasticity despite stress and a lack of quality sleep.
Recommended skin types
The ingredient is particularly suitable for mature, tired and dehydrated skin showing signs of stress and fatigue. It is recommended for people prone to wrinkles who lead a hectic lifestyle, lack sleep or experience chronic stress. Its gentle, supportive action also makes it suitable for sensitive skin. The ingredient does not contain the irritating components typically found in synthetic preservatives, which can be problematic for sensitive skin.
Scientific studies and results
Clinical studies conducted on volunteers with inconsistent sleep quality and hectic lifestyles demonstrated visible rejuvenating effects after just two weeks of application. In vivo tests documented a reduction in wrinkle depth and a significant reduction in the visible signs of tiredness. In vitro analyses found increased ATP production in a cellular model of sleep deprivation and improved chaperone expression in ageing fibroblasts. These results confirm that the ingredient effectively restores the skin's energy potential and supports its natural capacity to regenerate. The ingredient received the BSB Innovation Award Cosmetics 2020.
