NovoRetin™
Pistacia Lentiscus Gum / Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum (and) Hydrogenated Lecithin (and) Phenethyl Alcohol (and) Ethylhexylglycerin (and) Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride (and) Aqua / Water
Raw material approved by ECOCERT GREENLIFE in accordance with the COSMOS Standard. It is based on mastic, an aromatic resin that comes from a tree growing exclusively on the Greek island of Chios. Mastic, or lentisk, is an evergreen shrub that grows in dry, rocky and poor soil. Lentisks are a typical maquis vegetation found in Mediterranean countries. However, only the mastic trees of southern Chios produce the characteristic resin when the bark is scratched. This is probably due to the soil and especially the warm and dry weather conditions, and it explains why mastic production on Chios has been granted Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). This bioextract is obtained from this unique natural resin and is stabilized with hydrogenated lecithin, phenethyl alcohol, ethylhexylglycerin, caprylic/capric triglycerides and water, ensuring its safety and compatibility with natural cosmetics.
NovoRetin serves as an ideal plant-based alternative to retinol, inhibiting the expression and activity of the CYP26A1 enzyme that degrades retinoic acid in keratinocytes and enhancing its effect in 3D epidermis. The mechanism consists in increasing the naturally occurring retinoic acid in the skin, thereby restoring skin elasticity and density, providing an immediate lifting effect by reducing wrinkles and roughness, refining pores, reducing their size and appearance, reducing retention lesions, decreasing sebum production and increasing skin moisture. These effects mimic retinol without its typical side effects such as irritation. The recommended concentration in formulations is 1-3% for optimal results.
It is especially recommended for dry, dehydrated, mature skin with visible signs of ageing such as wrinkles and loss of elasticity, as well as for oily, acne-prone skin with a tendency toward clogged pores and retention lesions. It is ideal for sensitive skin because it provides stable retinol activity without photosensitization or irritation. Suitable for all age groups from 25 years of age who want to prevent ageing or address acne without the risks of synthetic retinol. NovoRetin is approved by COSMOS and NATRUE, making it a perfect choice for organic cosmetics.
An in vitro study demonstrated a 60% inhibition of CYP26A1 expression in keratinocytes at a 1% concentration (manufacturer's own data). An in vivo clinical study on 28 women showed a 22% increase in skin elasticity and a 15% increase in density after 28 days of use at a 2% concentration, along with an 18% reduction in pore volume and a 25% reduction in sebum (Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2022). These results confirm its efficacy as a plant-based retinol alternative.
