Borago Officinalis Seed Oil

Found in all corners of the world, this plant produces seeds that are pressed to obtain an oil with many health benefits. It is one of the best sources of gamma-linolenic acid (known as GLA), containing up to 20 %. GLA is an omega-6 fatty acid that the body can convert into prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), which has anti-inflammatory effects, and is particularly effective in treating eczema. Borage oil is used to support healthy hair and skin. It penetrates deep into the skin and helps restore the inner layers of cells. It hydrates the skin well, relieving dryness and itching while also helping it heal. It has powerful regenerating and healing effects on problem and inflamed skin. This oil is obtained by cold-pressing borage seeds, which preserves its natural composition rich in essential fatty acids. It is used in organic cosmetics as a high-quality plant extract without synthetic additives, ideal for natural skincare.

It works by deeply hydrating the skin thanks to its high GLA content, which restores the lipid barrier and reduces transepidermal water loss. It also acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting against free radicals, and has anti-inflammatory effects through PGE1. It soothes irritated skin, supports cell regeneration and promotes wound healing. In cosmetics, a concentration of 5-20 % in creams and serums is recommended for optimal results without weighing the skin down.

It is particularly recommended for dry, sensitive, dehydrated and problem skin prone to eczema or acne. It is also suitable for mature skin, where it supports elasticity, and for oily skin with a compromised barrier, as it regulates hydration without clogging pores. Ideal for people with atopic dermatitis or inflammation, where it helps relieve itching and redness.

A study published in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment (2008) showed that borage oil applied daily at a concentration of 12 % for 12 weeks significantly reduced itching and dryness in patients with atopic eczema by 50 % compared with a placebo. Another clinical study in the British Journal of Dermatology (1996) reports that GLA from borage oil at a dose of 240 mg/day improved the skin barrier and reduced inflammatory markers in patients with dry skin by 40 % after 6 months.
