NON-NANO mineral UV filter

PHYSICAL - MECHANICAL - MINERAL UV FILTERS: NON NANOMETRIC SUNSCREEN - active minerals work on the skin's surface, reflecting harmful UV rays. They create a mirror-like effect on the skin's surface, reflecting UV rays away from the skin. Unlike chemical filters, they do not penetrate the skin but form a protective layer on its surface. Benefits: they protect against UVA and UVB rays, work immediately after application, are suitable for all skin types, including children's and sensitive skin, do not increase free radical production, and are also suitable for people with skin conditions, as they reflect heat away from the skin's surface, unlike chemical filters, which generate and absorb heat within the skin. Their effectiveness does not decrease during their shelf life (whereas chemical filters become less effective), and they are not harmful to marine flora and fauna. NON NANO is an inorganic composite with properties suitable for use as a UV filter in cosmetics. Its particle size is measured in micrometres. The particles are not within the nanometre range (1-100 nm), and it provides a high level of UVA and UVB protection. It consists of a composite of ZnO, TiO2 and SiO2, developed using patented technology that provides broad-spectrum UV protection and offers safe, effective protection against UV rays. The particle size distribution was determined using Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA), a characterisation technique that uses both light scattering and Brownian motion to determine the size of particles in samples. These mineral filters are derived from natural minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, with silica added for improved texture and stability. These are inorganic, non-synthetic raw materials in micronised form, free from nanoparticles, ensuring safety for both the skin and the environment.

It works by physically reflecting UV rays at the skin's surface, creating a protective barrier without penetrating the deeper layers. It also soothes the skin through its anti-inflammatory properties, restores the skin barrier by minimising UV damage, and acts as an antioxidant by preventing the formation of free radicals caused by sunlight. At concentrations of 10-25 %, it provides high SPF 30-50+ protection, depending on the formulation, with an immediate effect after application.

Recommended for all skin types, particularly dry, sensitive, oily, acne-prone, dehydrated and mature skin. It is ideal for children, pregnant women and people with rosacea or eczema, as it does not irritate the skin or clog pores. Also suitable for people who play sports and those with prolonged sun exposure.

A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (2018) showed that non-nano ZnO at a concentration of 20 % provided broad-spectrum protection with UVA PF 15 and UVB PF 40, with minimal white cast and high photostability after 8 hours of exposure. Another study in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science (2020) reported that a micron-sized ZnO/TiO2 composite reduced induced erythema by 90 % after 24 hours of UV exposure compared with unprotected skin.
