Ferulic acid is an exceptionally powerful plant-derived antioxidant that neutralises skin-damaging free radicals. It enhances the effects of vitamins and helps regenerate vitamin C more effectively. It lightens the skin, giving it radiance and freshness. It counteracts the harmful effects of UV radiation. It supports the proper functioning of cell membranes and slows the ageing process, helping skin feel firmer and look more youthful. This substance occurs naturally in the seeds and cell walls of plants, including fruit, cereals and vegetables, from which it is obtained as a bio-extract. It can also be produced synthetically for greater purity in cosmetics, but its plant origin ensures it is gentle on the skin.

As a powerful antioxidant, ferulic acid works by neutralising free radicals, protecting cells from oxidative stress. It improves the stability and effectiveness of vitamins C and E and supports skin barrier repair by strengthening the lipid layer and reducing transepidermal water loss. It has soothing properties, reduces inflammation and gently lightens the skin by inhibiting melanin production. At concentrations of 0,5-1 %, it is ideal for stabilising anti-ageing serums and creams.

It is recommended for dry, dehydrated, sensitive and mature skin, as well as skin exposed to environmental stressors such as sunlight or pollution. It is suitable for all skin types, especially for those looking to prevent wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and loss of firmness. Avoid it only if you have a known sensitivity to phenols.

A study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology (2005) showed that ferulic acid at a concentration of 0,5 %, combined with vitamins C and E, increased protection against UV radiation by up to 8 times and reduced DNA damage by 37-52 % (Griffiths et al.). Another study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (2008) demonstrated that 0,5 % ferulic acid in serums improved skin elasticity by 20 % and reduced fine lines after 12 weeks of use (Lin et al.).
