Glycerin (and) Water (and) Cystoseira tamariscifolia extract

Rainbow algae extract is a raw material obtained from the so-called rainbow algae from the shores of the marine farming area of L’Armor-Pleubian in northwestern France. On land, the brown, spiny algae Cystoseira tamariscifolia changes its color upon contact with water from green through purple to bluish hues. Rainbow algae extract contains an extract of the dried algae, which gives the skin an even tone, brightens it, and lightens its pigmented imperfections. Its main functions are to lighten pigment spots and reduce skin unevenness. The algae grows in the harsh Atlantic environment, where it is hand-harvested in accordance with ecological standards, which ensures its freshness and preservation of bioactive substances. This bioextract is enriched with glycerin and water for better stability and absorption into the skin, making it ideal for modern cosmetics focused on natural protection and regeneration.

Rainbow algae extract stands out for its threefold action in reducing skin pigmentation, before, during, and after melanin synthesis. In the first step, it activates the breakdown of melanosomes, which are a key part of the melanocyte. Melanocytes are cells found in the skin that function as factories of the skin pigment melanin. This pigment is responsible for the brown color of the skin after exposure to UV radiation. Each melanocyte has access to a group of neighboring cells - keratinocytes - to which it transfers the brown color, which is then carried to the outermost layers of the skin. The absorption of molecules responsible for melanosome maturation prevents excessive melanin production and thus the formation of unwanted pigment spots. After application, there is a more than 90% reduction in melanin formation, while at the same time skin homogeneity is achieved. In addition, it inhibits melanogenesis triggered by external stimuli such as UV radiation, acts as an antioxidant protecting against environmental stress, and supports the restoration of the skin barrier.

In addition to melanosomes, the extract focuses on inhibiting melanogenesis. Similar to chameleons, the algae’s luminescence phenomenon is a consequence of the regular deposition of fat particles in its epidermal cells. It appears to be a kind of protection against environmental stress such as tides or the depth of the water in which they grow. It has been shown that the extract has a protective effect against UV radiation and other harmful environmental factors. This protective effect can also be transferred to human skin. Cystoseira tamariscifolia is harvested 100% by hand and meets the requirements for use in organic cosmetics according to Ecocert / COSMOS standards. In an ex vivo study on human melanocytes, the extract inhibited melanin synthesis by 91% at a concentration of 1% after 4 days of exposure (in-house study by Greentech, 2015).

The main scientifically proven benefits after topical application of a 2% solution are: Brightening effect: +27% increase compared with placebo; Whitening effect: +30% higher skin whiteness compared with placebo; Uniformity of skin tone: 83% of volunteers confirmed restored skin uniformity; Skin brightness: 87% of volunteers reported reduced facial hyperpigmentation, especially in the T-zone. It is recommended for skin with pigment spots, uneven tone, dry, dehydrated, mature, or UV-stressed skin. In a clinical study on 22 volunteers after 56 days of application of the 2% extract, an 87% improvement in skin brightness was achieved (Greentech clinical trial, 2016).

Ideal for dry, sensitive, mature skin with hyperpigmentation, post-inflammatory acne spots, or dehydrated skin. Not recommended for extremely sensitive skin without a test; always combine with SPF protection. A concentration of 1-3% in serums, creams, or masks maximizes the effects without irritation.
