Carrot extract / beta-carotene

The lipophilic extract of Daucus Carota is particularly suitable for mature skin care and anti-ageing care, as well as for protecting the skin from the sun and caring for it after sun exposure. It helps achieve an even, balanced complexion. Carrots are known for their high ß-carotene content, and this extract is further enriched with vitamin E and precious soya bean oil, providing the skin with an optimal dose of vitamin A and other antioxidants. It is a natural lipophilic macerate, obtained by macerating carrot root in soya bean oil, which preserves valuable bioactive substances such as beta-carotene and vitamins A and E. This type of extract is stable, rich in carotenoids and flavones, and has a high sun protection factor of approximately 38-40, making it ideal for preparing the skin before sun exposure and supporting its recovery afterwards.

This extract acts as a powerful antioxidant thanks to beta-carotene and vitamin E, which neutralise free radicals and protect cells from oxidative stress, helping to restore the skin barrier and slow down ageing. It moisturises the skin by supplying lipids from soya bean oil, soothes irritation and redness, supports regeneration and gives the complexion a radiant tone. It also regulates sebum production and evens out skin tone. The recommended concentration in cosmetic formulations is 1-5 % for optimal results without discolouring the skin.

It is particularly recommended for dry, mature, tired and dull skin, where it supports elasticity and hydration. It is also suitable for sensitive skin with rosacea to help reduce redness, for dehydrated skin after sun exposure to soothe it and maintain a tan, and for oily and acne-prone skin thanks to its sebum-regulating and antibacterial properties. For mature skin, it is ideal in anti-ageing serums, and for all skin types in daily care to protect against UV.

A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (2018) showed that topical application of beta-carotene at a concentration of 2 % improved skin hydration by 25 % and reduced oxidative stress by 30 % after 4 weeks in women with dry skin. Further research in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2020) reports that ß-carotene in lipophilic extracts increases type I collagen gene expression by 15 % in vitro, supporting the restoration of the skin barrier.
