Green clay
Montmorillonit
Green clay was originally found near the French town of Montmorillon. Today it is a common, natural type of clay that is also called bentonite. It contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron. It stands out for its absorbent properties. It is also used as a thickener. This clay is formed by the decomposition of volcanic ash in the presence of water and minerals, which gives it a unique structure with a high montmorillonite content. It is a 100% natural raw material without synthetic additives, sourced from natural deposits, often in organic quality without chemical processing. Its fine-grained texture allows gentle use in cosmetics.
It has strong detoxifying abilities. It removes toxins from the skin and body. It immediately removes impurities and excess sebum from the pores. Its mechanism of action lies in its high adsorption capacity, which binds toxins, oils, and impurities on its surface and mechanically removes them during rinsing, thereby exfoliating and cleansing the skin. It soothes irritated skin thanks to its mineral content, which supports regeneration. It has mild antibacterial effects that reduce the risk of infections. It provides protection against UV effects thanks to mineral particles. In cosmetics, it is used in concentrations of 5-20% in masks and peels for an optimal effect without drying.
It helps in the treatment of oily, acne-prone, and inflamed skin, which it cleanses and soothes. It reduces the risk of skin infections. It relieves chafing. It eases allergic reactions to urushiol, the substance found in poison ivy. It is ideal for oily, acne-prone, combination, and problematic skin, where it regulates sebum production and tightens pores. It is also recommended for sensitive skin prone to breakouts, dehydrated skin as a gentle cleanser, and mature skin for detoxification. It is not recommended for extremely dry skin without moisturizing ingredients. It is also used as a средство for regulating constipation and diarrhea. It supports weight loss and lowers cholesterol.
One study showed that a lotion containing bentonite clay is effective in preventing or reducing the severity of poison ivy when applied to the skin before contact with the urushiol compound that causes poison ivy itching. Another study in men and women with mild acne found that a mask of jojoba oil and bentonite clay — applied twice or three times a week for six weeks — was effective in reducing post-acne lesions by an average of 54 percent.
